meet sandy rowley, tap- in! volunteer

Sandra Rowley is a volunteer caller with a passion for staying in touch with people.

Sandy has been a TAp-In! Volunteer since the program's origin.  Since then, Sandy calls her buddy weekly, sends friendship cards and a birthday card.  “I let her know about free concerts and events in the community.  Being a telebuddy has given me a new friendship.  My telebuddy tells me she is so grateful; I’ve been able to give her referrals for workmen and contractors to help her around the house,” she explained.

Sandy has been a volunteer for several organizations, including the Red Cross, a mentor to a Vietnamese girl and a participant in a therapy pet program with her Seeing Eye dog at a nursing home.

Why does Sandy volunteer?  “I feel like I’m giving back.  As a person with a vision impairment, I have volunteer readers to help me and this is a way for me to give something to others.  It’s a wonderful program, my telebuddy looks forward to my calls and  I’m glad I have my telebuddy.  I put sunshine in someone’s day; it’s a great feeling,” Sandy said.
