Students participating in the first year of our new Soccer Program for Refugee Youth recently attended a day long soccer tournament in Boston with Soccer Without Borders. It was a wonderful trip for our 40 students, and the first-time visiting Boston for many of them. Playing against other Soccer Without Borders teams in the Boston area, we had two boys’ teams and one girls’ team compete in the tournament. Our girls’ team won all their games and came in first place!
After capping off the first year of this program at Emergence Academy in Springfield with a celebration at the school, this summer we will host our 3rd annual summer soccer clinic in partnership with Soccer Without Borders Boston. The clinic will serve recent refugee arrivals and Afghan youth in middle and high school in Springfield.
